When you are going to have a Pittsburgh HIFU procedure, you will receive one or two enemas just prior to the treatment to eliminate any obstructions that could interfere with the ultrasound wand. You will not need to be put to sleep for this procedure. Most often people are able to just have a local anesthetic and if needed a Spinal Block can be given as well. If the location to be treated is very small the treatment can take as little as an hour. When the Cancer is larger, it can take up to four hours to treat the entire area. Your future may depend on the quality of the technician that you have chosen to take care of your treatment. The technology is capable of sparing tissue that is not targeted, but the targeting of the tissue is either handled by hand or using a computerized robotic surgery assistant. HIFU is a highly advanced and specialized treatment that can ease the pain and suffering of Cancer treatment.
